Paradoxes in Göttingen

چکیده
In 1903 Russell’s paradox came over the mathematical world with a double stroke. Bertrand Russell himself published it under the heading “The Contradiction” in chapter 10 of his Principles of Mathematics (Russell 1903 ). Almost at the same time Gottlob Frege (1848–1925) referred to Russell’s paradox in the postscript of the second and final volume of his Grundgesetze der Arithmetik (Frege 1903 ), admitting that the foundational system of the Grundgesetze had proved to be inconsistent. Frege sent a copy of this volume to his Göttingen colleague David Hilbert (1862–1943), and received an astonishing reply. Hilbert assured that “this example,” as he called the paradox, had already been known before in Göttingen. In a footnote he added, “I believe Dr Zermelo discovered it three or four years ago after I had communicated my examples to him,” and continued

Paradoxes of Intensionality
We identify a class of paradoxes that are neither set-theoretical or semantical, but that seem to depend on intensionality. In particular, these paradoxes arise out of plausible properties of propositional attitudes and their objects. We try to explain why logicians have neglected these paradoxes, and to show that, like the Russell Paradox and the direct discourse Liar Paradox, these intensiona...

We show how to construct Greenberger-Horn-Zeilinger type paradoxes for continuous variable systems. We give two examples corresponding to 3 party and 5 party paradoxes. The paradoxes are revealed by carrying out position and momentum measurements. The structure of the quantum states which lead to these paradoxes is discussed.
